Faro Vitale came to the United States from Palermo, Sicily, in 1968. After working in New York, he saved enough money to send for his wife Serafina, who had remained in Palermo. They settled in Chicago, where Faro started his cooking career.

In 1980, Faro and Serafina opened their first restaurant in downtown Oshkosh. It wasn't long before the word got out about Faro's cooking. By 1985, they had outgrown the downtown location and moved to a bigger location across from the fairgrounds. Since then, the fairgrounds have been torn down and relocated. In 1998 Faro and Serafina built their present location at 215 W. Murdock Avenue.
